Welcome to the Rainy Hill blog. First, a bit about the name:
“Rainy Hill” is the name of a hill on the family farm in southern Minnesota. In the Mississippi River Valley, just south of Wabasha and up in the bluffs, the Suilmanns owned and operated a farm for over 100 years – a century farm, as they’re sometimes called. If you stand behind the barn and walk straight back, the third hill you reach is Rainy Hill. It got the name because you could find the cows up there in anticipation of a rainstorm, under the cover of giant oak trees.
This blog is about many things, especially family, but most of all it is a place to slow down and think about where we came from, and our common connection to one another. The kind of place where you can get shelter from the rain for a moment, at least until the cattle dogs come to drag you back into the world.
Thanks for visiting, and feel free to send an email or leave a message in the comments.
Love the photo! Who is that, it’s not Francis, is it? Looking forward to your waxing poetic about life and and the pursuits thereof. And there are so many “cattle dogs” …….
